The Rack

We hold testing stock so that a session has somewhere to go. We do not hold it because somebody paid for the shelf space, and there is no agreement in this building that obliges us to move a quantity of anything. That distinction is the entire reason a client can trust a recommendation.

Heads

What We Keep for Testing

Head stock rotates. New models arrive when there is a reason to think they solve a problem the existing stock does not, and old ones stay on the rack for years if they still fit somebody well.

Woods and hybrids

  • Adjustable driver heads across the common loft range
  • Both low-spin and forgiveness-biased designs held together
  • Fairway heads in three, four, five and seven lofts
  • Hybrid heads spanning eighteen through twenty-seven degrees
  • Driving irons kept for players who want no hybrid at all

Irons, wedges and putters

  • Cast game-improvement heads through forged players' shapes
  • Blended-set combinations for the long end of a set
  • Wedge heads in several sole grinds per loft
  • Blade, mid-mallet and high-inertia putter heads
  • Left-handed stock in every category, thinner but present

Left-handed testing stock is genuinely thinner than right-handed stock across the whole industry. Tell us when you book and we will bring additional demo heads in for your date rather than have you drive to Chad Drive and find three options.

Shafts

Held by Weight Band and Profile

The shaft wall is organised by what a shaft does rather than by who made it. A session that establishes you want something in the low seventies with a firm tip can then walk along a row rather than hunt through a catalogue.

Grips

Cheap, Overlooked, Frequently the Fix

A grip is the least expensive component on a golf club and it is the only one you actually touch. A hardened grip changes hand pressure, hand pressure changes face control, and face control changes the shot. We check grip condition on every club that comes through the door.

  • Around forty models held, across rubber, corded and wrap textures
  • Core sizes in both standard and undersize, with tape counts recorded
  • Oversize and midsize options for arthritic or larger hands
  • Cord and hybrid textures for winter play in the rain
  • Putter grips from pistol shapes through oversize non-tapered

The regrip interval nobody follows

Rounds, not years. In this climate a set played through two wet winters is usually overdue regardless of how the rubber looks, because the surface hardens long before it wears through. Forty rounds is a reasonable trigger for most players.

Both run at once, and we let them disagree in front of you rather than picking whichever screen says the nicer thing.

Instrument A

Doppler radar unit

Tracks the ball itself. Indoors it sees only a short stretch of travel before the screen, so everything past that point is extrapolation. It is the better of the two at describing the back half of a flight once there is enough flight to describe.

  • Trusted for: descent, peak height, apparent flight shape
  • Extrapolating: carry, total, anything beyond the enclosure
Instrument B

Photometric camera system

Photographs the strike. It reads what the club and ball did at the moment of contact directly, then models the flight forward from there. Its weakness is that a dirty ball, poor lighting or an unusual strike degrades the image it depends on.

  • Trusted for: ball speed, spin axis, club path, face angle
  • Modelling: everything after the ball leaves the frame
