Working Notes

Six pieces from the people who run the bays and keep the audit sheet, mostly about the distance between a screen and a golf course and how we close it. No product reviews, no launch announcements, no sponsored anything — nobody pays for a mention here.

How the Bay and the Grass Relate to Each Other

Method

Why the Bay Is Our Record and the Grass Is Only the Audit

Most studios treat an indoor number as a compromise for the months they cannot get outside. We built the studio the other way round, and the reasoning has more to do with repeatability than with Oregon weather.

Paired Sessions Across a Wet Winter

What it actually takes to turn a Sunday of grass swings into a table you can trust, and why a soaked lie throws the whole block out rather than getting averaged in.

What the Mat Hides in a Wedge Fitting

Full-swing carry and spin translate reasonably well from bay to grass. Sole behaviour does not, and we would rather say so before you book than after.

Easier to Show Than to Explain

Most of what is written here reads better with a clubface in front of you and two screens disagreeing live. Ask about any of it during a session and we will point at a number rather than lecture about it.

Every figure quoted in these notes comes from the paired-block sheet or from the gauges in this building. Where something is an estimate rather than a measurement, the sentence says so.

Where the numbers come from

  • Paired bay and turf blocks, April to September, nine seasons
  • Gauge records from every set that has come through the door
  • Session sheets, including the discard counts
  • Nothing taken from manufacturer literature
  • Nothing derived from a single session or a single golfer

Sixty seconds of paperwork, then a bay is yours

Tell us which club is bothering you and roughly when you can get to Chad Drive. We reply with two or three slots and a note about what to bring.
