How a Session Runs
Block by block, in order, including the parts that are unflattering to us.
Read it →Fourteen of them, answered the way we would answer them on the phone. The first three are about indoor accuracy, because that is what almost everybody wants to know first and almost nobody asks directly.
They mean something because we tell you how far off they are. Every indoor launch monitor in existence converts a very short observation of a golf ball into a full flight prediction, and that conversion carries error. The dishonest move is to quote the output as though it were a measurement.
Between April and September we run paired blocks: the same golfer, the same ball, the same club, hit in our bay and then on grass inside a week. The difference between those two sets of numbers is the offset, and it is printed on a card that goes home with you.
A table of corrections by club category and speed band. It says, for example, that our bay overstates driver carry by roughly four yards for a golfer in the 88 to 97 mph band, and that it understates spin on full wedges.
It also says what it does not cover: rollout, wind, altitude, wet golf balls and anything below a full swing. A correction table that claims to handle everything is not a correction table, it is a marketing document.
On Sundays between April and September, and not as fittings. Those blocks exist to keep the offset table current, and we sell a limited number of seats to clients who want their own personal correction rather than the pooled figure.
From October through March we do not test outdoors at all. Soaked turf and a wet range ball produce numbers that are worse than no numbers, because they look authoritative and are not.
A single-club session is ninety minutes, two clubs is two hours, and a whole-bag review is three hours which you may split across two visits. If a session runs long because a category will not settle, we absorb it. There is no hourly overrun on the invoice.
No. You pay the session fee and you leave with the build slip, the session sheet and the offset card regardless of what you decide. If you order from us within ninety days the session fee comes off the invoice. If you take the sheet elsewhere, that is entirely your business and we will not chase you about it.
Yes, and bring the ones you actually play rather than the set in the garage. Your current clubs are the baseline for the whole session. Without them, every improvement we report becomes a claim rather than a comparison.
Bring golf shoes too. The bay floor is turf, and a session in street shoes is a session with a different low point than the one you play with.
Handicap barely enters into it. The relevant question is whether you make broadly the same swing twice in a row, and most twenty handicaps do.
What changes is where the value sits. A low handicap session tends to chase spin windows and shaping. A mid or high handicap session usually finds far bigger returns in lie angle, shaft weight and getting the ball high enough to hold a green in cold air. The second list is cheaper and helps more.
Ours, unless you bring a sleeve of what you play, in which case yours. We keep a single reference model logged by batch so that a session in November and a re-check in March are comparable.
We will not run a fitting on range balls. They spin substantially less and fly shorter, and the difference is not a consistent percentage across clubs, which makes any gapping conclusion built on them wrong in an unpredictable direction.
Because they measure different things and their disagreement is informative. The camera reads the strike directly and models the flight forward. The radar tracks the ball and reasons backward. When the two drift apart on a particular club, something specific is usually going on: a mis-read on spin, a strike well off centre, a ball that has picked up moisture.
We show you both screens rather than choosing the one with the friendlier number.
Wedges and putters are usually three to five business days because we stock most of what goes into them. Iron sets and drivers depend on head and shaft availability from the manufacturer, which realistically means one to three weeks. June gives you a date when the order is written and calls you if it moves.
Nothing leaves without a post-build gauge check, and the measured figures are printed next to the target figures on the paperwork.
Yes, and a good share of our bench work is exactly that. Regripping, loft and lie correction, reshafting, length changes, ferrule repair and swing weight adjustment are all drop-off jobs regardless of where the club came from.
The only jobs we turn down are heads with a compromised hosel or visible cracking, because neither survives being heated.
No. We measure clubs. If a session makes it obvious that a swing issue is the actual constraint, we will say so plainly and point you toward instructors around Lane County, but we are not going to sell you equipment as a substitute for something a teacher should fix.
Say so at the start and the session changes shape. Cold, heavy air and holding fairways produce a different optimal spec from dry August conditions, and we would rather fit the half of the year you actually play.
If you play across both halves, the practical answer is usually to fit the harder condition and let the easier months be easy. A set that only works when the ground is firm fails you in exactly the months when scoring is hardest.
Parking is directly outside the unit on Chad Drive, ground-floor entry, no steps. There is no waiting area to speak of because the studio runs by appointment and nobody should be waiting. Arrive five minutes early and someone will let you in.
